ABOUT US
YAABA was formed and incorporated in the state of South Carolina in 2009 as a non-profit organization. Our 501 (c) (3) federal tax exemption status was issued in October 2010.
Our inspiration came from our trip to Ghana in June of 2008. We numbered about twenty individuals mainly from South Carolina. Our group consisted of students, educators, healthcare worker, ministers, and business persons.
Our two week stay in the Eastern Region of Ghana allowed us time to visit the local public schools, the school of the blind, the healthcare facilities, and an orphanage in the area. Our opportunity to interact with healthcare workers helped us see the great need for medical equipment and supplies.
We met the school teachers in the local school and saw the tremendous need for books and school supplies. We interacted with the children and administrators at the School of the Blind and saw the great need of the children and the school for Braille books and paper. We saw the urgent need for computers. We were humbled to see all of these institutions operating with so little resources.
